
HTLPAT010 Collect Specimens for Drugs of Abuse Testing
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to confirm collection requirements, prepare client and equipment and collect specimens via urine and/or oral and breath testing following the special procedures that apply for drugs of abuse testing.
This unit applies to individuals working in collection centres, in hospitals, in other health care environments and workplaces where drugs of abuse testing takes place.
The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.
Developed to meet legislative requirements for drug testing in accordance with Australian Standards: AS/NZS 4308 Procedures for specimen collection and the detection and quantitation of drugs of abuse in urine & AS 4760 Procedures for specimen collection and the detection and quantitation of drugs in oral fluid.
The course covers the following units of competency:
- HLTPAT010 Collect specimens for drugs of abuse
Learners who successfully complete all training and assessment requirements and are assessed as competent will receive a Statement of Attainment issued by METEX Solutions Pty Ltd, RTO 46448, for HLTPAT010 Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing.

Enrolment Requirements
Enrolment into the course requires a learner to:
- Be 18 years of age (Proof of Age or Drivers Licence Required)
- Basic language, literacy and numeracy skills to read and interpret workplace procedures, safety data sheets communicate with other workers and complete workplace and chain of custody forms.
